     Thomas Fairbairn died on 7 Aug 1873 The Valley, Selkirk, SEL, SCT, at age 76; cert. shows Thomas as widower of 1) Mary BROWN 2) Margaret SCOTT, farmer, 75, d. 9:30am of valvular disease of heart several years, dropsy 2 mths; s/o _ Fairbairn and Helen m.s. Blakebell, both dec'd. Inf. son Andrew, present, reg. Aug 11th.2,12

     Thomas Fairbairn appeared on the census of 1851 on Water Row, Selkirk, SEL, SCT, enumerated as Thomas F., 53, carter, wid, b Coldstream, BEW. Sis-in-law Eliza BROWN, 42, unm, b Dalhousie, MLN. Serv. David BROWN, 39, wid, carter, b Selkirk, SEL.1
     Thomas Fairbairn appeared on the census of 1861 The Valley, Selkirk, SEL, SCT, with Margaret Fairbairn, enumerated as FAIRBAIRN: Thomas 58 farmer 7 ac emp 1 man b Coldstream, BEW; wife Margaret 50 b Selkirk.11
     Thomas Fairbairn was shown as the head of the household in the census of 1871 Selkirk, SEL, with Margaret enumerated as FAIRBAIRN: Thomas 70 farmer 36 ac arable b Coldstream, BEW; wife Margaret 59 b Selkirk.10

Summary

     This FAIRBAIRN line appears to have daughtered out, with Andrew being the only recorded child for Thomas, and Andrew only having one son, Thomas, who appears to only have had a dtr.14
