Bety Newton was born circa 1729 ?Earlston, Par. of Earlston, BEW, SCT, no birth/bap. immediately obvious on SctP.1 She married Alexander Fairbairn say 1758 ?Greenlaw, BEW, SCT; date is based on a likely "booking" in the Greenlaw cash book, which only mentions Alexander, no wife, assumed to be for a marriage, and this date likely to fit the age of assumed son James.1,2Bety Newton died on 16 Nov 1784 Bruntaburn Mill, Par. of Westruther, BEW, SCT; aged 55.1 She was buried in Nov 1784 Earlston, BEW, SCT, #575 "Here lyes Bety NEWTON spouse to Alexander FAIRBAIRN tenant in Bruntaburn Mill who died 16.11.1784 aged 55 years."1
