     John Fairbairn married Mary Catchside in 1812 Stamfordham, NBL, ENG.6
     John Fairbairn died bet. Sep 1867 - Dec 1867 reg. Dist of Hexham, NBL, ENG.7
Although John's census data consistently shows him as born Ulgham, he has at least a passing connection to the nearby Stamfordham where there is a FAIRBAIRN family close in age and sharing many of the same forenames, relatively uncommon amongst FAIRBAIRN families overall (eg Sarah, Matthew).
His two eldest known childen, William & John are shown in registers as born and baptised at Stamfordham to John, no mother's name shown, at dates (1812 and 1814) shortly after a Stamfordham marriage to a Mary Catchside (1812).
Census data adds at least a Mary and an Ann to the family of John, with Ann's birthplace recorded in census data as born at Ovingham.
Non conformist baptism records for Horsley Independent exist from Mary (1816) through to Ann (1823) at Ovingham which explicitly name their mother as Mary
The working assumption is that she is therefore Mary CATCHSIDE.8,9,10

ARMITAGE 24 b Haddon on the Wall, NBL; Visitor: Cathrine HAWKINS 16 hse serv. b IRL.5
     John Fairbairn appeared on the census of 1861 Horsley High Barns, Dist of Hexham, NBL, ENG, enumerated as FAIRBAIRN: John 83 wid. farmer 155 ac emp 4 labs 1 boy, b Ulgham, NBL; Children: William 48, John 46 both b Stamfordham; Ann 36 b Ovingham, NBL; Grdchildren (ARKLEY): Mary 11 b Newcastle All Saints; Sarah 10, Matthew 8 both b Newcastle St John; (John's dtr Mary married a John ARKLEY in 1845) Servants: Margaret HOGG 21 dairymaid b Ponteland (subsequently married John's son William); William NOBLE?
